BEIJING, October 10 (TMTPOST) – Tourists to China's most popular scenic spot Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan province have been scarce since late August due to the tight pandemic prevention and control policy in Sichuan province.
According to the Jiuzhaigou ticket booking system, the number of tickets booked during the week-long National Day holiday was around 200. Since the end of the National Day holiday, the booking has continued to be dismal. Only 64 people booked tickets between last Saturday and Monday, far below a previously planned single-day limit of 41,000 tourists during the week-long holiday.
During the week-long holiday, Huanglong Scenic Area and Siguniang Mountain had a daily limit of 25,000 and 20,000 tourists respectively. However, the booking system shows that no one has booked since October 1, the National Day. Meanwhile, Dagu Glacier shut down temporarily.
Since August 18, many places in Aba prefecture have reported confirmed cases of COVID-19. According to data from Yidu Cloud, as of last Sunday, a total of 119 confirmed cases had been reported in the current outbreak of the pandemic in Aba prefecture, with a peak of 11 new cases within a single day on September 13. During the National Day holidays, 1 and 3 new cases were confirmed on last Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
On August 29, Jiuzhaigou Administration issued a notice that people who traveled to Tibet, Hainan, Xinjiang, Chongqing, Chengdu and other pandemic-hit areas within 7 days should be isolated at home or in designated quarantine facilities. All people entering Aba should have 24-hour negative nucleic acid certificate and have 2 tests within 3 days after arriving at their destination. Because of this policy, the number of tourists entering Jiuzhaigou dropped sharply.
On September 30, Jiuzhaigou issued another notice that the pandemic prevention requirements were further tightened and all people entering Aba were required to hold three negative nucleic acid test results within five days. It also emphasized that after arriving in Jiuzhaigou County, all people need to finish three nucleic acid tests in three days to enter the tourist attraction.
